Privacy Policy

Overview

Capture Kit is a Chrome extension for taking screenshots and recording auto-scrolling videos of web pages. This policy explains what information the extension and this website handle, and how that information is used.

Capture Kit does not collect, sell, or share personal data for captures. Screenshots and recordings are processed entirely on your device and saved to your Downloads folder or local browser storage. We do not operate advertising analytics on captures.

Payments (Capture Kit Pro)

Optional Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Checkout, invoices, and payment details are handled on Stripe’s systems under their privacy policy.

To unlock Pro, you sign in with email (one-time code) via our auth provider (Supabase). The extension may send your email, authentication tokens, and subscription status requests to Supabase and open Stripe Checkout / Customer Portal for billing. Screenshots, recordings, page content, and browsing history are not uploaded for billing or account checks.

Information the extension processes

When you use Capture Kit, the extension may access the following on your device:

• Active tab content — to capture visible-area or full-page screenshots, or to record a scroll video of the page you are viewing.
• Tab URL — displayed in the extension popup so you can confirm which page is being captured. URLs are not transmitted to our servers.
• Captured images and videos — written directly to your local Downloads folder. These files remain on your computer unless you choose to share them elsewhere.
• Extension preferences — your selected video quality preset is stored locally in Chrome storage on your device.

Temporary session data (such as recorder configuration while a capture is in progress) is kept in Chrome session storage and cleared when the session ends.

What we do not do

• We do not upload screenshots or recordings to external servers.
• We do not track your browsing history or page visits.
• We do not use advertising cookies on this website. We use Google Analytics (gtag.js) to understand aggregate website traffic; it may set cookies or use local storage as described in Google’s privacy documentation.
• We do not sell or rent user data to third parties.

Chrome permissions

Capture Kit requests the minimum permissions needed for screenshots and recordings. Chrome’s install and permission dialogs use generic wording that can sound broader than how Capture Kit actually works.

Tab capture: Capture Kit requests tab capture access only to record the tab you explicitly choose. Recording starts only after your action, and all processing remains local on your device.

About “Read and change all your data on all websites”: Chrome may show this phrase when an extension can run scripts or request broad site access. Capture Kit does not permanently read or rewrite every site at install. Core captures use temporary access to the tab you activate (when you open the extension or press a shortcut). Optional full-site access is requested only if you enable Pro scheduled (watchdog) capture. Captures are never uploaded.

Install permissions:

• activeTab — temporary access to the tab you are using when you open Capture Kit or use a shortcut.
• tabs — read the active tab’s URL for filenames/context, focus the right window, and open Library, Studio, or Settings.
• tabCapture — record video/audio of the tab (or selected area) you start recording on.
• scripting — inject selection UI, full-page stitching, scroll recording, and related helpers only after you start a capture action.
• storage — save settings, local Library, and Pro sign-in tokens on this device.
• windows — open the recorder control window and apply viewport size presets.
• alarms — re-check Pro status and run optional scheduled captures if you enable them.
• offscreen — save exports without the broader “manage downloads” permission.

Optional (only when you need them; Chrome prompts at that time):

• https://*.supabase.co/* — email sign-in and Pro subscription checks. Never used for screenshots or page content.
• http://*/* and https://*/* — only for Pro scheduled (watchdog) captures that run on a timer without clicking the extension. Core screenshots and recordings do not require this.

These permissions are used only to perform the capture or account actions you initiate.

Restricted pages

Capture Kit cannot capture browser-internal pages such as chrome://, chrome-extension://, edge://, about:, or devtools:// URLs. This limitation is enforced locally in the extension.

This website

The Capture Kit marketing site at this domain is a static page. It does not set tracking cookies, collect form submissions, or log personal information. Standard web server logs maintained by your hosting provider may record IP addresses and request metadata; those logs are outside the extension itself.

Third-party services

Installing Capture Kit from the Chrome Web Store is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy. The extension does not embed third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

Children’s privacy

Capture Kit is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of Capture Kit after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
